Two Bank Officials, Private Person Convicted in Bribery Cases; Lucknow CBI Courts Award 4-5 Years Rigorous Imprisonment

The CBI Courts in Lucknow on August 25, 2026 convicted and sentenced two bank officials and a private person in two separate cases of bribery.

CBI Cracks Down on Long-Absconding Bank Fraud Accused, Arrests Two Proclaimed Offenders From Delhi and Punjab

In the first case, the CBI had registered a case on March 12, 2018, against Rakesh Chandra Thakur, the then Branch Manager of Baroda UP Gramin Bank, Hariharpur Branch in Sultanpur. He was accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a complainant for releasing the first instalment of his Rs 4.25 lakh Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan.

The CBI laid a trap and caught Thakur red-handed demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 6,000. The agency had filed a chargesheet on May 10, 2018 after investigation and charges were framed against him on December 21, 2020.

The Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, CBI, Court No. 06, Lucknow, sentenced Thakur on August 25, 2026. He was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 25,000.

The second case was registered by the CBI on August 11, 2016, against Ravi Kumar Gupta, the then Assistant Manager of Purvanchal Bank, Partawal Bazar Branch in Maharajganj. Gupta was accused of demanding Rs 15,000 from a complainant for processing his KCC loan.

According to the CBI, Gupta accepted Rs 10,000 from the complainant through a private person, Indrajeet Singh alias Babu Saheb. The CBI trap team caught both Gupta and Singh red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe.

The CBI filed a chargesheet against both accused on September 30, 2016, and charges were framed on March 27, 2019.

Special Judge, CBI (West), Lucknow convicted both the accused on August 25, 2026. Ravi Kumar Gupta and Indrajeet Singh were sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 40,000 each.
