Ministry of Labour Appoints Appellate Authorities Under Code on Wages, 2019

The Ministry of Labour and Employment recently shared a notification on May 12, 2026, regarding the appointment of Deputy Chief Labour Commissioners (Central) of different states.

The Central Government has invoked the powers under Section 49(1) of the Code on Wages, 2019, for the appointment of certain officers as appellate authorities. These officers shall hear and decide appeals by persons aggrieved by an order passed under section 45(2) of the Code. This applies to where the Central Government is the competent authority.

With this notification, the earlier notification issued on 17th October 2019 is cancelled. However, any actions already taken under the old notification will still remain valid.

The officers appointed as appellate authorities, along with the areas under their jurisdiction, are listed in the following Table:

3 Deputy Chief Labour Commissioners (Central) in Ajmer Region The State of Rajasthan.
4 Deputy Chief Labour Commissioners (Central) in Asansol Region The civil districts of Bardhaman-East, Bardhaman-West, Birbhum, Bankura and Purulia in the State of West Bengal.
5 Deputy Chief Labour Commissioners (Central) in Bengaluru Region The State of Karnataka.
