CGST Bribery Case: CBI Arrests Additional Commissioner, Superintendent After Rs 1.50 Crore Demand

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has nabbed an IRS officer serving as Additional Commissioner of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), along with a Superintendent of CGST, Raigad, and a private person, in connection with a bribery case.

The arrest took place on August 27, 2026. The CBI in the present case had registered a case on August 26, 2026, against the accused, the Superintendent of CGST. The accused is alleged to have demanded a bribe amounting to Rs 1.50 Crore for settling the GST/royalty matter concerning the stone-quarrying firm of the complainant. The bribery amount was fixed at Rs 40 Lakh after deep negotiation.

The accused officers allegedly arranged for the bribe to be collected through a private person and instructed the complainant to pay the amount to him.

The CBI then laid a trap and caught the private person red-handed while accepting Rs 40 lakh. The CGST Superintendent and Additional Commissioner later acknowledged receiving the bribe amount.

All three accused have been arrested and will be produced before the competent court. During searches at the premises of the accused, the CBI also recovered Rs 43 lakh in cash and jewellery worth around Rs 90 lakh.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
